Experience
I have many years of experience in the field of education. I was a classroom teacher for several years, teaching first, second, fifth and sixth grades. I hold a multiple subject teaching credential and a Reading and Literacy Added Authorization from the state. In addition to private tutoring, I am a reading and math specialist in an elementary school, working with students at each grade between Kindergarten through 5th in the areas of phonics, reading comprehension, and math. I love designing and planning lessons for my students to help each of them reach their individual potential. In my work as a math tutor, I can help your student with basic skills that they may need, as well as help them navigate the common core math curriculum. There are five essential components of reading: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. As a tutor in reading, I complete an assessment for your child and make an individual plan for which areas would be best focused on for reading skill improvement. I also bring into play my experience with the California Common Core State Standards in English Language Arts. As a phonics tutor, an assessment of phonemic awareness as well as phonics skills helps me to best focus my time with each student. I look forward to hearing from you and working with your child.
